Just Completed my application for Offaly County Coucil Public Art Commission. Offaly County Council would like to commission a photographer to capture a visual profile of Offaly at this moment in time for future record. The intention is to commission a photographer to document what defines Offaly today and to publish it as a book and exhibition. This could, for example, include images such as streetscapes, people, fashion, shop fronts, social and ceremonial gatherings, use of digital technology, landscape, industrial heritage, leisure pursuits and much more.
We are living through a rapidly changing culture; already the Offaly of twenty five years ago seems very different. The technology, social practices, domestic customs or landscape we are familiar with today will seem dated or may have died out by the time today’s toddlers are adults.
The value of this commission is €24,000, inclusive of all costs, the design and print of 1,000 books, including any fees, production of 20-25 images for exhibition, delivery, transport, expenses, materials, accommodation, insurance (artists own public liability) services required and any VAT that falls due on costs.
The selection panel nominated by Offaly County Council will include; a representative of Offaly’s Public Art Working Group, a member of Offaly County Council, a professional arts manager and two independent photographers. Applicants will be notified of the result of the selection process by latest 30th November, 2014. So not long to wait!
